For the most part, I enjoyed this set. It was mostly well-written, but there were some error themes (lay/lie) and then the third book started having more & more problems. There were missing quotes, subject/object pronoun errors, lie/lay errors, and there was a spot where Jayne leaned against the Cherokee, only she didn't have the Cherokee in that scene, she had the cop van. Sloppy work really detracts from being able to just go along for the ride. (I know some people aren't bothered by these things, but some of us are.)The characters were mostly likeable, though I sometimes had trouble keeping them straight (Honey & Sugar?). I don't know if it was how they were presented or if I've just been too tired to keep that much in RAM. I think, for me, maybe some of them just weren't developed enough or didn't come across as genuine or didn't have distinct enough personalities. Parts fell a little flat.I never got a sense for the layout of the village. There were descriptions, but it never coalesced in my mind's eye. Again, it could be me.I was having a hard time with dog (can't even think of her name now & it's only been a week...). It felt more like the dog was there when it was convenient & then dropped out of the scenes when it wasn't convenient. The behavior, the handling, the over-treating... She's a K9 cop but she failed as one... It didn't quite work for me. Though, the dog behavior did hit spot on much of the time. :)It seemed as if some of the Wiccan things were handled well. I didn't look everything up to verify it, but I found it interesting when certain crystals and teas and things were mentioned and it seemed as if there had been work done to make sure things were accurate.Overall, the stories were likeable. I'd read more by this author. I wouldn't put her in my favorite category, but I've definitely read worse. Book 1. Loved loved loved it!The author immediately draws you into the story. She has the gift of making you feel as if you were there. I liked the fact that the village isn’t your ordinary everyday run-of-the-mill village. It’s a village full of so-called ‘misfits’, people that weren’t welcome elsewhere. The book is very well written and suspenseful. Not fast-paced exactly, but fast enough. There is a surprise at the end, something I hadn’t expected. The main case gets solved, but there are a few things that are left open in the end, I guess as an opening towards book #2.Book 2. A good book, I highly recommend it!I loved it! A good book, well written, suspenseful; the pages turned themselves! I didn’t want to stop reading - no, scratch that - I COULDN’T stop reading. One minor thing: in the end, the solution was offered on a silver platter; a bit too easy. But, in saying that, it WAS suspenseful and it HAD a twist. So, all in all, a lovely book, definitely worth 5 stars! I highly recommend it to anyone who loves a good mystery with a bit of quirkiness.Book 3. I absolutely loved it!There is so much going on in Jayne’s life! One very important thing: what happened to Gran? Immediately I felt drawn into the story. Immediately I was back there, in Whispering Pines, with Jayne. Well written, with a good pace and a good vibe. A bit of the paranormal, a bit of romance, a bit of mystery. Suspenseful and very surprising. Once again, I loved Jayne’s dog Meeka! The title fits the book perfectly. I highly recommend this book!
